The 5.7 KM ropeway journey offers spectacular scenic views of the deep blue sea and lush greenery located below the ropeway. The excitement does not end with the cable car cabin trip as the 1.5 ha Ngong Ping Village offers a wide array of activities and attractions including, monkey’s tale theatre, walking with Buddha, the village tea house. Additionally, the village’s streets are full of performers, entertainment establishments, dining areas as well as retail stores. Five minutes from the village is the largest Buddha statue in the world and the bronze Tian Tian.
experience the great culture of man mo temple Man mo temple is an ancient building that has been declared as historic monument. It is a beautiful old building that was built around 1840’s. The temple was used to worship the god of civil, Man Tai and Mo Tai, the god of martial arts. As you enter the temple through the giant red door, you get to see these beautiful lanterns and huge incense coil hanging from the ceiling and burning continuously producing an incredible smell. There is no entrance fee and a great place for taking pictures especially if you like photography. Sheung Wan is one of the largest and most popular known temples of the Man Mo temples located on Hollywood Road in Sheung Wan. The temple comprises of three blocks where the main block, Man Mo is dedicated to civil god Man Cheong and martial god Kwan Tai. The temple was mainly used by locals to meet and settle disputes. Po Lin Monastery Initially called as Da Maopeng, Po Lin Monastery was built by Buddhists and is situated in Ngong Ping on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. In the year of 1924 it was renamed to Po Lin and is considered as one of the major tourist destination in Hong Kong. The famous Po Ling Monastery is a collection of gigantic halls and structures. It includes Da Xiaog Bao Dian, hall of Ti-tsang Bodhisattva, banuro hall and other impressive structures. There is a bronze statue of Ti-tsang inside the hall of Ti-tsang which weighs around 200 kilograms and the hall also includes a bronze bell which weighs about a ton. Tian Tan big Buddha which is situated on the peak of Muyu mountain is the most famous attraction for the tourists. It represents a Sakyamuni sitting on a lotus pedestal performing meditation and is more 30 meters in height. Pedestal consists of a three story exhibition hall which includes Gongde, Faije and Sakyamuni memorial hall. Faije hall exhibits a wooden book which records 160 bodhisattvas gathering to converse sutras. In the hall of Sakyamuni the relic of Sakyamuni is worshiped by people and was brought from Sri Lanka in the year 1992. Inside the Gongde hall is present an enshrined statue of Ti-tsang standing on a lotus pedestal with cane in hand. The bell which is placed in the exhibition hall is engraved with Buddhist sutras and is rung in every seven minutes. It is also believed that the powers of bell can cure more than 100 kind of anger present inside a person.
An exhibition of relics, Longcang sutra and paintings is often conducted in the monastery and Buddhist disciples from all around the world come to pay a visit. Wooden bracelets from the Po Ling Monastery are also famous worldwide and are only sold near the Tian Tan Buddha statue.
