Smith-Builders Launched

Smith-Builders(.com) has launched! It took a little longer than I thought it would, but in the end it came out nicely. Smith-Builders was put together for my old friend Kim Squaglia’s husband Tod. He’s a construction contractor in the Sacramento California Area. A nice WordPress based site, it’s minimal, and professional looking with some nice polished points. With a some guidance I’ll be able to help Tod navigate the ins and outs of his site (being pretty unfamiliar with web publishing), so that he can control it, instead of always having to come to me. That’s my dedication to service!

I got the theme from cudazi, over at Themeforest. He makes great themes and has good customer service skills.

I have a Fuji Instax 200. Crazy looking camera but it’s a lot of fun to use. Plus you can get some great looking shots. I had taken a bunch of snaps this summer at my friends house and decided to get a little extra creative.

Not much new here at hypnotiza. The logo will be updated, but I’ll wait until I redo my current theme. In “creative” news, I did a little revamp of the psychoses designs which I’ll post up soon, just a little typographic change. I have a ton of film to process but I’m kind of waiting to get a film scanner so that all I have to do is get the rolls developed. Then I can do my own scans at better resolutions. Have a few new shirt ideas which you can see over on the idea list on the side there. Pardon me while I ramble. You can see that I’ve added some new flickr stuff, textures and poladroids and a big batch of Instax and some free lensed shots.

In freelance news I continue to help my buddy with his marketing and design needs. I also did a little job adding a twitter stream and some linking icons to Facebook and Twitter. Nothing major, but some nice pocket cash all the same. Out for now, cheers!

Posted up some designs on MySoti.com. MySoti is easy to use and create a specific set of products: Tshirts, Posters, and Lampshades. Most of the my “illustrative” designs will be made using a halftone bitmap style to get around the gradient alpha limitations. I’ll add a gallery of the images here, that are a bigger size than are displayed on MySoti.
Go buy something!

I’ve refined my base colossy image a bit, and have made a series of graphics to play with the shirtmockup.com tool. I mentioned it in the previous post and promised some images; it’s delivery time! Now if only GO MEDIA could enable printing from the design! That’s the next step.

Shirtmockup.com check it out! Very cool way to see how your shirt designs might work, especially if you want to use direct to garment printing. I usually pop over to American Apparel use my Colorzilla dropper and pick out the shirt color I like and use the hex on the site and in my psd. Gallery to follow soon.

I have created a Zazzle store with the name Scotch&Chocolate, two of my favorite things. It’s part of an endeavor I want to work on this year, diversifying the places you can buy my designs. Design Rescuer

So my role as a design rescuer continues. The project with Drkmd.com is just about at the level where it can sustain itself; the layout is complete with a few tweaks here and there. It has been a great learning experience with the Headway theme, a real important change in for the future of wordpress themes. I will continue to work with my friend on Drkmd.com doing advertising design for print or updating some of the galleries.
I’m starting two more projects, one is the redesign of ihatebikethieves.com and the design and launching of a complete site for Alki Beach Tattoos. I’m also hoping to start a business or site with my friend Shane called Here to Help. Shane manages to attract a large number of folks that need design help, it should be a great opportunity to do more WordPress design as well as identity and print.
